Bream Creek Farmers Market is held at the Bream Creek Showgrounds on the first Sunday of every month, from 9am to 1pm, with growers, cooks, brewers, producers and makers from South Eastern Tasmania and beyond. The focus is locally grown, fresh and seasonal produce, sold directly by the people who grow or make it, and stallholders can’t buy in goods to resell.
It’s run entirely by a volunteer committee and has been running since December 2012. The showgrounds overlook the green, rolling hills of Bream Creek, about 40 minutes’ drive from Hobart: turn off the Arthur Highway at Copping and follow Marion Bay Road for a few kilometres. There’s live music on the showground stage, and the market runs a stall of its own where locals can sell their produce on consignment. Entry is free and there’s plenty of parking.
Winter and special markets can run different hours, so check breamcreekfarmersmarket.com.au or @breamcreekfarmersmarket before you go.
Stalls change from market to market, so what is trading varies week to week. The categories and tags here reflect the natural, organic and real food stalls we saw on our visit, not a guarantee every one is there every time.

A smiling volunteer greeted me as I drove in and I thought I was about to pay to enter. Nope, he was pointing me to the next volunteer, who found me a spot to park. I stayed longer than I’d planned, because the stalls were so popular I kept having to wait for the coast to clear. That’s a quality problem to have! Then there were the gorgeous black and white cows on the hill behind the showgrounds. I bought things, too. Such a lovely small town feel. Loved it!
