The Pork Hut and Rystin Hill Farm are a family-run farming business based in the heart of Tasmania’s Derwent Valley, built on a passion for good food, hard work and supporting local producers.
What began as a small family adventure on a 60-acre bush block in Black Hills has grown into something much bigger. Originally, pigs were introduced to help clear the land and manage the bush. But after tasting the difference in homegrown pork, the family quickly realised they had something worth sharing.
That was the beginning of The Pork Hut.
Today, Rystin Hill Farm is home to pasture-raised pigs, where the focus is on raising animals with care, making the most of the land and producing quality food with a genuine paddock-to-plate approach.
The Pork Hut was created to give people a direct connection to where their food comes from. Offering their own homegrown pork alongside carefully selected products from other Tasmanian farmers and producers, the aim has always been to keep good food local and make it easier for people to support the families behind it.
From pasture-raised pork and traditionally smoked smallgoods to locally sourced lamb, beef and everyday farm-shop favourites, everything is chosen with quality, provenance and local connections in mind.
More than just a farm shop, The Pork Hut is about building a community around good food and local farming. Through its membership program, customers can enjoy the flexibility of 24/7 access to the farm shop, allowing them to shop outside normal opening hours.
They believe in knowing where food comes from, being transparent about how it is produced and supporting the small businesses and farmers who help keep Tasmania’s food industry thriving.
They aren’t a wholesaler or a traditional butcher. They’re farmers who have opened their farm gate and created a place where customers can buy good food, meet the people behind it and know a little more about what’s on their plate.
At the heart of it all is a simple belief: good food should come from good people, grown closer to home.
